Current Codes

2011 Vietnamese Energy Efficiency Building Code (VEEBC)
The only known building energy code in Vietnam is a set of guidelines for efficiency and conservation. It is unknown what building elements the code covers. It is mandatory for all buildings 2,500 square meters in floor area or bigger, but few in the industry know about the code and the Ministry of Construction does little to enforce it.

History

Vietnam first developed its VEEBC in 2003 and updated this code (with minor revisions) in 2005. However, this code was not broadly implemented.

To accelerate the application of technologies in saving energy, the Ministry of Construction is carrying out a $3.2 million USD project called “Energy efficiency improvement in commercial and high-rise residential buildings in Vietnam” from 2016-2019. This project is funded by the United Nations Development Programme.
