Maureen is a licensed architect with over twenty-five years of experience in energy efficient and green building design. As BCAP’s President, Maureen oversees a nationwide campaign to support the development and adoption of current model energy codes. In addition, she directs several technical, outreach, and advocacy projects to help various stakeholder groups realize the benefits of energy codes and efficient buildings. Maureen has served on several energy and green construction code development boards, including the development committee for the International Green Construction Code, and this year will serve on the Public Hearing Committee for the Commercial Energy Code. In 2010 Maureen was awarded the President’s Award by the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in recognition of a career dedicated to advancing building code adoption and enforcement, and incorporation of sustainability into regulated building practices. Maureen holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Carnegie Mellon University.

Cosimina joined BCAP over ten years ago supporting the organization’s nationally recognized efforts to assist states and local jurisdictions in enacting and implementing strong and effective building energy codes through advocacy, technical assistance, outreach programs and coalition building efforts. She is a Certified Energy Manager through the Association of Energy Engineers, a LEED AP, and a graduate of the State University of New York Institute of Technology. Prior to joining BCAP, Cosimina spent over 20 years working in different aspects of energy engineering in both the private and public sectors. Working for BCAP, Cosimina has given numerous educational workshops, testimonials and energy code advocacy presentations all over the country. Her work rallying and supporting public and private stakeholders has brought an awareness of the existing regional and local viewpoints that must be accounted for in any successful advocacy campaign. Cosimina has worked effectively with these varying perspectives that exist in the country, managing to build consensus which has resulted in far-reaching acceptance and awareness of the value of energy efficient building codes as good public policy.

Maria works with state and local jurisdictions to improve energy efficiency, bringing together stakeholders from various perspectives to collaborate on solutions. Prior to joining BCAP, Maria served five years at the Alliance to Save Energy, managing the North American Secretariat of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership, working with the U.S. Department of State and others to share U.S. state and local financial and policy successes with developing countries. Prior to this, she directed a national public awareness campaign in partnership with the Ad Council that garnered more than $140 million in donated and earned media via TV, radio, print, Internet and billboards ads. She holds bachelor degrees in Resource Development and Extension Education Communications from Michigan State University.
