Scope

  • The Georgia Outpatient Facilities Design Code applies to the design, construction, and renovation of outpatient care facilities, setting standards for patient safety, infection control, and accessibility in settings such as ambulatory surgery centers, imaging facilities, and specialty clinics. The code includes requirements for patient care spaces, HVAC systems, emergency systems, and ADA compliance to ensure safe and functional outpatient environments.

Exception #1: Outpatient clinics that do not provide invasive procedures may have less stringent ventilation and design requirements, as determined by local jurisdiction.

Exception #2: Existing outpatient facilities undergoing minor updates may not need to meet the full code requirements unless changes directly impact safety or infection control.
