Overview ASME A18.1 is a safety standard developed by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) that provides guidelines and requirements for the design, construction, installation, operation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and alteration of platform lifts and stairway chairlifts. These devices are used to provide accessibility for individuals with disabilities and mobility impairments.
The 2014 Ohio Platform Lift and Stairway Chairlift Code is based on ASME A18.1-2011 with Ohio-specific amendments. This code sets the minimum standards for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of platform lifts and stairway chairlifts within the state of Ohio. The Ohio-specific amendments address additional safety requirements and conditions unique to Ohio, ensuring the reliable and safe operation of these accessibility devices.
