Overview ASME A17.3 is a safety code developed by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) that provides guidelines and requirements for the maintenance, inspection, testing, operation, and alteration of existing elevators, escalators, and related equipment. It ensures that existing installations meet the current safety standards to protect the public and maintenance personnel.
The 2015 Ohio Existing Elevator and Escalator Code is based on ASME A17.3-2011 with Ohio-specific amendments. This code sets the minimum standards for the maintenance, inspection, testing, operation, and alteration of existing elevators and escalators within the state of Ohio. The Ohio-specific amendments address additional safety requirements and conditions unique to Ohio, ensuring the continued safe operation of these systems.
