Overview ASME A17.1/CSA B44 is a safety code developed by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) that provides guidelines and requirements for the design, construction, installation, operation, inspection, testing, maintenance, alteration, and repair of elevators, escalators, and related equipment.
The 2016 Ohio Elevator and Escalator Code is based on the ASME A17.1-2013/CSA B44-13 with Ohio-specific amendments. This code sets the minimum standards for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of elevators and escalators in the state of Ohio. The Ohio-specific amendments address additional safety requirements and conditions unique to Ohio, ensuring the safe operation of these vertical transportation systems.
