Overview ACI 318 is a standard developed by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) that provides guidelines and requirements for the design, construction, and materials of structural concrete, including thin shells. Thin shell structures are characterized by their thin, curved surfaces which are capable of carrying loads primarily through membrane stresses.

The 2019 Ohio Concrete Thin Shells Code is based on ACI 318-14 with Ohio-specific amendments. This code sets the minimum standards for the design, construction, and maintenance of concrete thin shells within the state of Ohio. The Ohio-specific amendments include additional provisions tailored to the unique needs and conditions of thin shell construction in Ohio, ensuring safety, reliability, and performance of these specialized concrete structures.
