Scope

  • The provisions of the Georgia State Minimum Standard Fire Code apply to both new and existing buildings and premises. It governs fire safety measures, fire protection systems, and fire prevention regulations to safeguard life and property. This code covers fire department access, fire hydrants, hazardous materials, fire protection systems, and emergency preparedness.

Exception #1: Detached one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses not more than three stories in height are not covered by this code but by the Georgia State Minimum Standard Residential Code.

Exception #2: Specific fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and egress requirements follow the Life Safety Code (LSC) and International Fire Code (IFC).
