Scope

  • The provisions of the Georgia State Minimum Standard Energy Code apply to the design, construction, and alteration of buildings to ensure energy efficiency. The code sets minimum requirements for energy-efficient building envelopes, HVAC systems, lighting, and water heating systems in both residential and commercial buildings. Georgia-specific amendments strengthen the energy performance standards.

Exception #1: Detached one- and two-family dwellings, as well as townhouses, must comply with the residential provisions of the IECC 2015 as amended by Georgia.

Exception #2: Large commercial buildings can alternatively comply with ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2013 as amended by Georgia.
