Scope

  • The Georgia Seismic Steel Construction Code applies to the design, construction, and maintenance of structural steel buildings to withstand seismic forces. This code establishes requirements for steel materials, connection detailing, and structural integrity to ensure safety and performance in earthquake-prone areas. It covers lateral load resistance, ductility, and energy dissipation in structural steel systems.

Exception #1: Structures in low-seismic risk zones may have less stringent requirements, as determined by the local jurisdiction.

Exception #2: Non-structural steel elements and temporary construction systems may follow alternative design criteria if they do not contribute to the building’s primary seismic resistance.
