Scope

  • The Georgia Platform Lift and Stairway Chairlift Code applies to the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of platform lifts and stairway chairlifts intended to provide accessibility for individuals with disabilities. This code ensures that these accessibility devices meet safety requirements for residential and commercial settings, focusing on factors such as load capacity, operational controls, and emergency provisions.

Exception #1: Private residential lifts may follow less stringent requirements if they are installed in single-family homes and used only by residents.

Exception #2: Temporary lifts or chairlifts installed for short-term events or in temporary structures may be subject to alternative standards or requirements.
