Scope
- The Georgia Platform Lift and Stairway Chairlift Code 2014 applies to the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of platform lifts and stairway chairlifts for individuals with disabilities. This code ensures accessibility devices meet safety requirements in both residential and commercial settings, addressing load capacity, safety controls, and emergency features.
Exception #1: Private residential lifts may have reduced requirements if installed in single-family homes and used only by residents.
Exception #2: Temporary lifts or chairlifts installed for short-term use or in temporary structures may follow alternative standards as specified by local authorities.
