Scope
- The provisions of the Georgia Life Safety Code 2018 apply to the construction, protection, and occupancy features necessary to minimize the danger to life from the effects of fire, including smoke, heat, and toxic gases. It covers means of egress, fire protection features, building services, and emergency systems to protect occupants during emergencies in new and existing buildings. Georgia-specific amendments adapt the code to the state’s needs, ensuring enhanced safety measures.
Exception #1: Detached one- and two-family dwellings, as well as townhouses, are covered under the Georgia State Minimum Standard One- and Two-Family Dwelling Code (International Residential Code) and are generally exempt from this code.
Exception #2: Industrial and storage occupancies may have different egress and fire protection requirements due to the nature of their use and occupancy classifications.
