Scope
- The Georgia Hospitals and Outpatient Facilities Design Code applies to the design, construction, and renovation of hospitals and outpatient care facilities, ensuring standards for patient safety, infection control, accessibility, and functional efficiency. This code covers patient care areas, surgical and treatment suites, ventilation and HVAC requirements, emergency facilities, and outpatient settings to create safe and compliant environments for both hospital and outpatient services.
Exception #1: Small outpatient clinics with limited services may be subject to less stringent requirements as determined by the scope of care provided.
Exception #2: Existing facilities undergoing minor updates or renovations are generally exempt from meeting the full 2014 code requirements unless changes directly impact critical safety or infection control features.
