Scope
- The Georgia Hospital Facilities Design Code applies to the planning, design, construction, and renovation of hospital facilities, ensuring they meet standards for patient safety, accessibility, functionality, and infection control. The code includes provisions for patient rooms, surgical areas, HVAC systems, and emergency facilities to support optimal care delivery in both new and existing hospital buildings.
Exception #1: Small outpatient facilities and clinics may have alternative requirements based on their operational scope and the services provided.
Exception #2: Existing hospitals undergoing minor renovations may not be required to meet all current design standards unless changes affect essential health and safety functions.
