Scope
- The Georgia Hospital Facilities Design Code applies to the design, construction, and renovation of hospital facilities to ensure standards for patient safety, accessibility, infection control, and functional efficiency. This code includes requirements for patient care areas, surgical suites, HVAC and ventilation systems, and emergency facilities, aiming to create safe, compliant hospital environments for both patients and staff.
Exception #1: Outpatient clinics and other non-hospital healthcare facilities may have different design requirements based on the types of services provided.
Exception #2: Existing hospital facilities undergoing minor updates may be exempt from meeting all 2018 code requirements unless changes impact critical health and safety functions.
