Scope

• The provisions of the Georgia Fire Wall Code apply to the design, construction, and maintenance of fire walls, fire barriers, and fire partitions in buildings to prevent the spread of fire. Fire walls are designed to provide a physical separation between different sections of a building, ensuring that fire cannot easily spread from one area to another. The code specifies the fire-resistance ratings required for different types of construction and occupancies.

Exception #1: Detached one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses are regulated under the Georgia State Minimum Standard Residential Code and may not need to follow the same fire wall requirements as commercial or multi-family residential buildings.

Exception #2: Buildings under specific square footage or height may have reduced fire wall requirements depending on the occupancy and building use.
