Scope

• The provisions of the Georgia Fire Sprinkler Code apply to the design, installation, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. The code outlines requirements for system layout, water supply, sprinkler head placement, and maintenance to ensure fire protection. Georgia-specific amendments provide enhanced safety and accommodate local conditions.

Exception #1: Certain residential properties, such as one- and two-family dwellings, may have less stringent requirements or use alternative compliance methods as specified in NFPA 13D (for single-family and duplex homes).

Exception #2: Existing buildings are not required to upgrade to current sprinkler standards unless undergoing significant renovations or changes in occupancy that would require compliance with the updated code.
