Scope
- The provisions of the Georgia Fire Alarm Code apply to the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm and emergency communication systems. This code establishes the minimum requirements for fire detection, alarm signaling, and notification to ensure occupant safety and facilitate emergency response. It also covers smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detection, and mass notification systems.
Exception #1: One- and two-family dwellings are required to comply with the smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detection provisions of the Georgia Residential Code (based on IRC) rather than NFPA 72.
Exception #2: Buildings with alternative fire protection systems, such as suppression-only systems, may be subject to fewer fire alarm requirements depending on local jurisdiction.
