Scope
- The Georgia Elevator and Escalator Performance-Based Code 2007 provides an alternative approach to traditional prescriptive codes. It allows for innovative designs and technology in the installation, modernization, and operation of elevators and escalators while ensuring safety. The performance-based approach ensures that systems meet safety objectives by focusing on specific performance outcomes rather than solely following prescriptive rules. It applies to both new and existing installations.
Exception #1: Systems installed in buildings where traditional prescriptive codes are not feasible (due to design innovation or other factors) may follow performance-based criteria under this code.
Exception #2: Private residential elevators may be exempt from certain provisions, depending on the size and scope of the installation.
