Scope
- The provisions of the Georgia Elevator and Escalator Code apply to the design, construction, installation, inspection, testing, operation, and maintenance of elevators, escalators, and related equipment. The code ensures safety and reliability for passenger and freight elevators, escalators, and moving walkways in both residential and commercial buildings.
Exception #1: Low-rise residential buildings (four stories or fewer) with private elevator installations may follow simplified requirements under ASME A17.1 as amended by Georgia.
Exception #2: Temporary elevators and escalators used during construction projects are subject to separate provisions and may have different requirements.
