Scope

  • The Georgia Carbon Structural Steel Code applies to the specification, fabrication, and use of carbon structural steel in construction projects. This code ensures that carbon steel used in structural applications meets quality standards for strength, durability, and consistency, covering requirements for structural elements like beams, columns, and plates in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

Exception #1: Decorative and non-load-bearing steel elements may follow alternative guidelines if they do not contribute to structural stability.

Exception #2: Temporary steel structures used during construction may have different standards based on duration and load-bearing requirements.
