Scope

  • The provisions of the Georgia Accessibility Code apply to the construction, alteration, and maintenance of facilities to ensure accessibility for individuals with disabilities. The code provides minimum requirements for accessible routes, entrances, restrooms, parking, and other public and private building features, ensuring compliance with federal accessibility standards and additional Georgia-specific provisions.

Exception #1: Certain small businesses and historical buildings may be subject to more lenient accessibility standards as determined by local jurisdiction or state exceptions.

Exception #2: Residential buildings, including one- and two-family dwellings, are generally exempt from accessibility requirements unless they are part of a public accommodation or multi-family housing development.
